Difference
between behavior and attitude
Ø Attitude
is permanent while behavior is temporary
Ø Attitudes predict behavior better
when the attitude is
measured at a level that is similar to the behavior to be predicted.
Normally, the behavior is
specific, so it is better to measure the attitude at a specific level too.
Ø An attitude is an enduring set of
emotions or beliefs about a particular object, person, organization, issue or
event. They're formed over
time as we are exposed to stimuli and make an evaluation. ... As we experience
the world, our thoughts and emotions coalesce into attitudes, and these then affect our behavior.
Ø While attitude involves mind's
predisposition to certain ideas, values, people, systems, institutions; behaviour relates to the actual
expression of feelings,
action or inaction orally or/and through body language.
u
Opinions
Ø An
opinion is a judgment, viewpoint, or statement that is not conclusive, rather
than facts which are true statements.
Ø Opinion
is our mindset for different situation and things
u Why do all these become a problem
Ø Communicators
have different values, attitudes and opinions
Ø Our
receivers will favor us if our messages agree to their mindsets, attitudes and
opinions
u
People
with different values attitudes and opinions
Ø Our
message is rejected when it becomes unfavorable for our receiver.
Ø We
usually react to a situation according to our attitudes rather than a fact
u
Closed
minds
Ø Some
people have rigid views about some subjects. These people never consider facts
or additional information.
Ø They
will maintain their rigid views even with the passage of the time.
Ø People
with closed minds are very difficult to communicate.
Ø Sometimes
people have their own interests.
u
Sender’s
credibility
Ø Credibility
in the sender is important in getting a favorable reaction.
Ø In
a situation people react more to the source of information than to the
information itself.
Ø In
our common life we give more attention to a communicator who has credibility
someone whom we trust and respect
u
Most
important is….
Ø An
effective communicator builds credibility by writing and speaking in a fair and
just manner and by considering receiver’s point of view.
Ø If
you are considerate and taking care of others, you are making your own image
Ø Our
attitude towards a message can be affected if we have some personal or
environmental stress
Ø On
a day when we are personally upset, our message will also be very gloomy and
uncooperative.
Ø The
stresses of our life affect our ability to send effective messages and color
our responses as a receiver
Ø Doesn’t
matter if you are sensitive to your own state of mind but sensitivity to your
receiver will help you to communicate your message in a positive way
